Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a life-shortening genetic condition that slowly destroys the lungs and digestive system. You are born with CF and cannot catch it later in life, but one in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without even knowing. 10,400+ people are living with CF in the UK, and each week five babies are diagnosed with the condition. There is currently no cure for CF, and each week in the UK two people die of the condition.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the only UK-wide charity dedicated to fighting for a life unlimited by cystic fibrosis for everyone affected by the condition. They invest in cutting-edge research to develop improved treatments, drive up standards of clinical care at specialist CF centres and clinics across the UK, and provide trusted information, advice and support to those affected. They also campaign hard on the issues that matter, including:  access to medicines; equal care for all;  better facilities for people with CF at King’s College Hospital; a national lung transplant allocation system; and access to cost-effective travel insurance and free oxygen on flights.

This is a time of great anxiety for many people with cystic fibrosis. Many of the CF community will currently be ‘shielding’ themselves or their loved ones.  The Cystic Fibrosis Trust are doing all they can to try and support people with CF and their families through this unprecedented time by  providing emergency support. However, despite the enormous increase in demand for their services, they are facing a substantial drop in their fundraising income as they have had to cancel and postpone a number of events and fundraising initiatives.
